Prospective Cadets

Howdy prospective cadets! The corps of cadets is the heartbeat of A & M, and Company A-1 was the beginning of life here in the corps. As the oldest and most diverse outift in the corps, Company A-1 is dedicated to turning new recruits into a Soldier, Statesmen, and Knightly Gentleman. Below are some links to help you pursue a college career at A & M and inform you on the corps of cadets, and letters from the A-1 Commander and First Sergeant. If you would like more information, you can call some of the contact numbers on the Contact Us page. Enjoy, and Gig'em!

A Message from the Commanding Officer

Howdy! First I would like to thank you for your interest in Company A-1, the Corps of Cadets, and Texas A&M University. Through this interest you have taken a critical first step on your path of development as a leader and as a soldier or responsible citizen. Chances are, if you found this web site, then A-1 is the place for you. We are the oldest outfit in the Corps (since 1876), and still provide the best leadership experience available whether you plan to take a military contract or not. Although we have a greater than average contract to non-contract cadet ratio, we provide relevant leadership and followership training through our daily regimen of physical, mental, and emotional discipline and development.

In addition to training within our outfit, we support outside involvement and are heavily involved in Corps organizations including Rudder's Rangers, Fish Drill Team, O.R. Simpson Honor Society, Ranger Challenge, Parson's Mounted Calvary, the Ross Volunteer Company, and the Corps Baseball Team, and University-wide organizations including Student Council on National Affairs, Men of Aggieland, Impact, Texas A&M Emergency Care Team, Business Student Council, Aggie Orientation Leader Program, Aggie Relay for Life, MSC Visual Arts Committee, Civil Air Patrol, Aggies for Christ, and Hillel to name a few.

While the primary purpose if A-1 and the Corps of Cadets is to develop leaders of character who are prepared to provide values-based leadership in the public and private sectors of society, you have many "good bull" opportunities to look forward to as well. Some of these will include the Company A-1 Bonfire, barbecues, class trips, outfit trips, Halloween and Christmas Parties, and an Old Animal Reunion.

I can speak for the whole Company in saying that we look forward to meeting you, training you, developing your capacity as leaders, and having plenty of good bull along the way.

For the Good Times,

Kenneth Horton ‘08

A Message from the First Sergeant

Howdy, on behalf of Company A-1, welcome to the company website. If you have decided to accept the challenge of the Corps of Cadets, then the next four years of your life will be exciting and demanding. The corps is not an easy task, and the acceptance of the challenges should not be taken light heartedly. Being an Animal is a life changing experience that will define the rest of your days. The rich traditions and history of Company A-1 is 130 years strong and proud. Congratulations on your decision to become an Animal.

Thanks and Gig ‘em,
